Successful switch to green aluminum at the Griesser plant in Nenzing

Thanks to more sustainable aluminum, Griesser will save 30% CO2/kg of aluminum in the future and take another big step toward net zero.
From classic wing shutters to stylish sliding shutters – since last September, the window shutter range produced at the Griesser site in Nenzing has been made almost entirely from green aluminum. Thanks to this more sustainable aluminum, which is produced in Europe using renewable energy, the Swiss sun protection specialist will save 30% CO2 per kg of aluminum in the future, taking another big step towards net zero.
Griesser produces its entire range of window shutters in Nenzing, which consists of different variations of sliding and hinged shutters. With the goal of converting the entire range at the Austrian site to green aluminum by the end of 2025, Griesser launched its sustainable materials initiative in November 2024. The choice of product was obvious to Urs Neuhauser, CEO of the Griesser Group: “Our window shutter range uses the largest quantities of aluminum. The material changeover in Nenzing therefore enabled us to achieve a significant impact quickly.”
Last September, the Europe-wide sun protection company almost achieved its goal and is already using 95% low-carbon aluminum in the production of its window shutter range. With green aluminum, Griesser saves up to 30% CO2 per kg of aluminum and now achieves a value of 3.3 kg CO2/kg aluminum.
The greener aluminum, produced in Europe using renewable energies and modern technologies, ensures up to five times lower CO2 emissions compared to conventional coal-intensive production.
Griesser makes no compromises when it comes to sustainable production: the quality is at the usual high Griesser level and the previous warranty periods apply to all Green Aluminium products. As with the rest of the Griesser range, the greener model variants are also EPD-certified.
