Whether it’s at home, in the office, or in some other type of building, we spend up to 90 percent of our time in closed rooms – often without natural daylight or fresh air. With that in mind, buildings have a significant impact on our quality of life.
Daylight increases our efficiency and boosts motivation. So to ensure we can take full advantage of the positive effects of daylight, even in closed rooms, dynamic solar shading has a huge role to play.
In office buildings, for example, computer monitor work involves maximum requirements with respect to the combination of daylight, illumination and glare protection. Selection of the correct automatic solar shading ensures high user comfort, good protection against heat and glare-free computer workstations.
Rooms filled with daylight are much more comfortable places to work – and live. That said, too much sunlight can quickly lead to glare. Not only does this cause eye damage, it also often results in fatigue and headaches. Modern solar shading solutions offer dynamic protection, as the positioning of the curtains can be adjusted depending on the conditions outside.
When the sun is shining and the rooms inside are starting to feel like a greenhouse, people want protection from the sun on one hand, and the ability to make the most of the daylight without losing contact with the outside world on the other. External venetian blinds, for example, don’t have to be closed entirely; the slats can simply be rotated just enough to shield the sun. This position reflects the powerful direct radiation while still letting through enough daylight. Positioned in this way, the slats still offer visual contact to the outside world.
Feeling at ease also means being able to decide for yourself on the amount of privacy you would like in your own home. With blinds and awnings, you are protected against the unwanted gaze of others from outside. You want to “seal off” a room, without having to sit in the dark? No problem: place the slats at the desired height and at the desired angle: The light comes in – prying eyes remain outside.
The right room temperature makes a great contribution to our sense of well-being. If it is too warm or too cold, we quickly feel uncomfortable. If it even comes to the point that we find ourselves sweating or freezing within our own four walls, then it is over with any feeling of well-being. It is for that reason that the right solar shading in front of the windows is so important. If it is hot outside, then it shields the interior against unwanted thermal radiation, and if it is cold, then it allows the right amount of desired thermal radiation to come inside. That is why, in the absence of proper solar shading, it can easily be 15°C warmer inside a house with large window surfaces than it is outside.
The ambient conditions change over the course of the day and during the seasons. With a dynamic solar shading control system, you can adjust your solar shading to match your personal requirements in accordance with changing exterior circumstances.
